Faith or Compulsion- What inspires to be ordained as monk?
Have you ever heard the stories of why someone ordained as monk or nun? Yes, dark stories of their life without reach to privileged life. Else it is a gem like rare to know someone who heartfully accepts this type of simple life forms( Let me be careful with my words—I'm not accusing every one).
Its disheartening to see how the bhutanese selfishly improvises with the nations paramounts to meet their personal needs. Claim it to be a worrisome or besmirching situation to have nations ethics and values at the brink of extinction but I can undoubtedly claim that religion is on “WANE" now.
The real issue is not about someone choosing to get robed for their helpless situation but how easily they take the matter on their shoulder. It may see as easy as wearing any uniform yet there are always more than what you see. The etiquette and rules that are bound to a monk is much difficult to handle.
Until it's the faith that drives an individual into this world of renunciation, compulsion ain't proving any good in grooming an epitome monk. I have encountered many name sake practitioners and their ironic projection of behaviors. Gambling, doping and importantly losing the vows of chastity are some of them. These "Bad Monks" are shame and a huge insult to the purity of uniform.
I find these as a repercussion of compulsion being the core reason of pursuing monkhood. We are running through this time where values are dissipating and fake monks are ironically threatening devout's faith.
You may find my claims far fetched but I recommend you to have a closer look. Many monks were once a poor academic performer during school days and some were thugs who couldn't be brought in line.
So is it faith or compulsion? Answers may differ yet my encounters enlightened me with the fact of serious degeneration in people's ideal.
